MCDONOUGH — The Lady Chargers of Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy (18-8) shocked No. 2 Calvary Day 55-44 in the quarterfinals of the Class A Private girls state basketball tournament Friday night at Kennesaw State University.
After Calvary Day claimed a 9-8 first-quarter lead, ELCA outscored the Lady Cavaliers 14-8 in the second quarter to take a 23-16 lead into the halftime break.
The Lady Chargers continued to score the ball at a high clip, pouring in 17 more points in the third quarter to extend their lead to 40-27. Calvary Day finally woke up in the fourth quarter, but a late run wasn’t enough to put any real pressure on ELCA in the end.
With the victory, the Lady Chargers will face Greenforest (26-0) in the semifinals Saturday night. The Lady Eagles, who beat ELCA twice during the regular season, advanced to the semifinals with a 35-28 victory over Tatnall Square Academy Friday night.
Tip is set for 6:30 p.m. at Kennesaw State University.
